Call to Worship

We have a great and mighty God who has graciously revealed himself to us.  It has been said that God has revealed himself to us in two books: in the book of creation and in His Holy Word.  Creation speaks to us of an all-wise creator but it insufficient to save us.  It is only through hearing the the Word of God recorded in the Bible that we come to a full knowledge of creation and God’s great plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.

I invite you to hear the Word of the Lord this morning:

Psalm 19:1-4, 1The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.

Prayer
Heavenly Father we want to praise you for you are great and mighty.  You are the all-powerful creator and Sovereign Lord of heaven and earth.  We thank you for revealing yourself to us not only in nature but more fully in your Word.  Your Word, that contains the words that lead to eternal life.  Lord we are unworthy to find favor in your site for we are sinful and lowly.  We are unable in and of ourselves to come into your presence to worship you rightly.  So we ask you for you help this morning.  We ask that your Holy Spirit would fill us and empower us to worship you in Spirit and in truth. We pray as David did that you would “Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of my hearts
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, our rock and our redeemer.  And we ask this in Jesus name, Amen

Congregational Reading
Psalm 19:7-11, 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules  of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

Song 1: This is My Father’s World

Intro To: Lilly of the Valley
In this old hymn, Christ’s beauty is compared to a lily of the valley and bright and morning star, the fairest of ten thousand.  If you have been given eyes to see, then sing of his beauty this morning.

Song 2: Lilly of the Valley

Intro To: In the Shadow of the Glorious Cross
This is a modern hymn that expresses a sense of lament and struggle that we sometimes go through in this life.  These times are meant to draw us closer to our Saviors side as we journey through this broken world.

Song 3: In the Shadow

Intro To: The Love of Christ is Rich and Free

The Lord is good, and His steadfast love endures forever.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Song 4: The Love of Christ is Rich and Free

Prayer for Offering
From the Valley of Vision Puritan Prayer Book, Regeneration.
(Personal pronouns changed from singular to plural for corporate prayer)

O God of the highest heaven,

occupy the throne of our hearts,
take full possession and reign supreme,
lay low every rebel lust,
let no vile passion resist thy holy war;
manifest thy mighty power,
and make us thine forever.
Thou art worthy to be
praised with our every breath,
loved with our every faculty of soul,
served with our every act of life.
Thou hast loved us, espoused us, received us,
purchased, washed, favored, clothed,
adorned us,
when we were worthless, vile soiled, polluted.
We were dead in iniquities,
having no eyes to see thee,
no ears to hear thee,
no taste to relish thy joys,
no intelligence to know thee;
But thy Spirit has quickened us,
has brought us into a new world as a
new creatures,
has given us spiritual perception,
has opened to us thy Word as light, guide,
solace, joy.
Thy presence is to us a treasure of unending peace;
No provocation can part us from thy sympathy,
for thou hast drawn us with cords of love,
and dost forgive us daily, hourly.
O help us then to walk worthy of thy love,
of our hopes, and our vocations.
Keep us, for we cannot keep ourselves;
Protect us that no evil befall us;
Let us lay aside every sin admired of many;
Help us to walk by thy side, lean on thy arm,
hold converse with thee,
That we may be salt of the earth
and a blessing to all.

We ask this in Jesus name, Amen

Song 5: O Great God

Intro To: Help My Unbelief
Jesus ministered to a boy who was possessed with a demon.  His Father asked, “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”  Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
